At a celebration in the City of London on 21 November, Royal Caribbean International announced its Southampton homeport decision for Anthem of the Seas, along with plans for a musical theme on the newbuild.

The line’s president and CEO, Adam Goldstein, and vice president Dominic Paul addressed guests following a performance of popular songs (‘anthems’ chosen by the British public) by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. British radio personality Lauren Laverne introduced the event.

“Music has always been very much a part of what we’ve done in the past and we are confident that with Quantum and now Anthem of the Seas, we will take this part of our product to an entirely new level,” said Goldstein. “We will offer intimate musical performances in the heart of the ship.” Entertainment venues on the newbuild will include a Music Hall, which Goldstein said will be “state of the art but quite edgy in design”. Acts and performers will be announced early in 2014.

Paul said: “An anthem is a moment that truly defines our lives. Music is about energy, passion and adventure, which are the defining characteristics of the Royal Caribbean brand.”

In answer to a question from ICFR about whether the new musical offering will include paid, ticketed events, Goldstein said: “Although I would not rule it out, this is not the norm for our brand. Mostly our entertainment is included in the programme for guests, providing amazing value. We are looking to extend that value.”
