Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has signed a contract with Seabourn to build a new ultra-luxury cruise ship.

The yet-to-be named vessel is scheduled for delivery in mid-2016 and will be based on the line’s popular Seabourn Odyssey-class ships.

At 40,350gt, the new ship will be larger than the line’s three existing Odyssey-class vessels (Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest) and will hold 604 guests at double occupancy. It will also feature an additional deck and expanded public areas.

“The new ship will continue the evolution that began with Seabourn’s fleet expansion, adding modern design elements and innovations consistent with Seabourn’s reputation for understated elegance,” said Richard D. Meadows, Seabourn’s president. “With its delivery, the most highly rated cruise line in the world will also offer travellers the newest fleet of ships in the luxury segment.”

The new vessel will provide a much-needed boost to Seabourn’s capacity following the sale of the Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend vessels. The three older ships are being transferred to Windstar Cruises over the next two years.
