ADELTE Ports & Maritime, which designs and manufactures seaport passenger boarding bridges (SPBBs) for cruise and ferry terminals, has secured eight contracts to supply a total of 11 tailor-made bridges to European and Asian ports.
Formerly known as TEAM, the company will design and install SPBBs at the ports of Rotterdam, Stornoway, Swinoujscie and Ullapool in Northern Europe; Denia and Savona in Southern Europe; and Busan and Singapore in Asia. Following the installation of these systems, ADELTE will have designed, manufactured and fitted 100 SPBBs across the world.
Rotterdam, which is currently renovating its cruise terminal facilities to ensure it can cater for larger vessels and increased passenger numbers, will replace its current system with ADELTE’s Kronus SPBB.
ADELTE will also supply two Thalassa SPBBs for the Scottish ports of Ullapool and Stornoway ferry terminals, which are being upgraded to facilitate smoother passenger operations when Scottish operator Caledonian MacBrayne launches Loch Seaforth on the route between Ullapool and Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. To improve passenger flow, Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited and Ullapool Harbour Trust have contracted ADELTE to deliver an SPBB at the ferry terminal in Ullapool Harbour, while construction company BAM Nuttall has commissioned a similar, but larger system at the ferry terminal in Stornoway.
Capable of absorbing large tidal variations and operating in strong service winds, the Thalassa boarding bridges can serve at dock level, while the Ullapool unit will be equipped with a wind turbine which supplies energy to the outer lights.
Elsewhere in Europe, the company will supply its Hydra bridge to Poish construction company Budimex this autumn. Serving passengers sailing on the ferry routes between Swinoujscie in Poland and Ystad in Sweden, ADELTE’s Hydra SPBB will cater for vessels of up to 220m in length.
Costa Cruises has also contracted ADELTE to install a Hydra SPBB at a new cruise terminal, which is currently under construction at the Italian port of Savona, while ADELTE will also install a Pegasus SPBB at Spanish ferry operator Baleària’s new ferry terminal facilities at the port of Denia. The bridge will connect with a fixed elevated walkway leading to the ferry terminal.
In Asia, SATS–CREUERS has commissioned ADELTE to design, manufacture, transport and install an additional Sedna SPBB at Singapore Marina Bay Cruise Center. Scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2014, the bridge will be added to the other three Sedna units, which were installed in 2012.
Four moveable Kronus SPBBs, which are similar to the Apron Drive systems found in airports, have also been commissioned by the Busan Port Authority. Equipped with air conditioning systems and ADELTE’s docking cabin, the bridges can be elevated and have radical drive capabilities, enabling them to follow the movements of a docked ship.
In addition, ADELTE’s Global Services team has also secured annual maintenance services contracts for the ADELTE boarding bridges at a range of terminals including the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Hong Kong; Singapore Marina Bay Cruise Center; the Cruise Center II in Hamburg, Germany; the Ostseekai and Schwedenkai terminals in Kiel, Germany; Rotterdam cruise terminal; the Half Moon Cruise Center in Norfolk; and all the cruise terminals in Barcelona, Spain. The team will also maintain all boarding bridges at the cruise and ferry terminals in Genoa, Italy.
