AmaWaterways’ new AmaMagna will feature spacious suites, multiple dining venues, an expansive wellness studio, the river cruise industry’s first-ever watersports platform and its most fuel-efficient engine when she debuts in May 2019.
Twice the width of traditional European river cruise vesselss, AmaMagna will accommodate 194 guests in 98 staterooms – more than half of which will be between 355 and 710 square feet, making them some of the largest in the river cruise industry. There will also be six Grand Suites and one Ama Owners suite. All guest accommodation will offer contemporary décor with natural wood accents, while the suites will have full outside balconies, open seating areas and luxurious bathrooms with double sinks and walk-in showers. The seven larger suites will also provide separate indoor seating areas and sizable bathrooms with spa-like bathtubs.
AmaMagna’s four dining venues will include the main restaurant, which will have floor-to-ceiling windows; The Chef’s Table Restaurant; the Al Fresco Restaurant; and Jimmy’s Wine Bar Restaurant, which is named in honour of the late Jimmy Murphy, one of AmaWaterways’ original co-founders.
“My father truly enjoyed sharing a glass of wine with friends; in fact, a favourite photo in my office shows Rudi, Kristin [both co-owners], my father and me together at a winery, all with joyous smiles on our faces,” said Gary Murphy, vice president of sales at AmaWaterways. “Selecting Jimmy’s as the official name of the new wine bar restaurant brought a great deal of joy to the entire Murphy family, but particularly to my mother who said: “your father would be very happy with that, he loved those ships, and now he has his own spot on a very special one”.”
Another onboard highlight will be the expansive Zen Wellness Studio with a large exercise area for group classes led by a professionally trained wellness host, a juice bar, two massage rooms and space for manicures, pedicures and hair services. Guests will also benefit from a sun deck with a large heated pool, whirl pool and a pop-up sky bar, as well as a watersports platform at the rear of the vessel to enable guests to embark on complimentary tours.
“As the luxury river cruise market evolves, we plan to continue paving the way as an innovative industry leader,” said Rudi Schreiner, president and co-owner of AmaWaterways. “While this new concept has been in the works for us for some time, we believe that now is the perfect moment to introduce this very special ship. With more personal space, the freedom of multiple dining venues and exceptional accommodations, AmaMagna has been designed for those seeking a fresh, contemporary and dynamic take on river cruising as well as ocean cruisers accustomed to the luxury of more.”
AmaMagna will sail ‘Romantic Danube’, ‘Melodies of the Danube’ and ‘Christmas Markets’ itineraries on the Danube, which passes through Germany, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovakia and Croatia.
