Royal Caribbean International’s new Symphony of the Seas began her maiden season this April after being delivered by Fincantieri shipyard in Trieste, Italy in late March.
Among the many innovative venues and amenities onboard Symphony of the Seas, one that stands out is the two-level Ultimate Family Suite. Designed by Miami-based hospitality design firm BG Studio International and fitted out by Northern Ireland-based firm MJM Group, the suite spans 1,346 square feet and accommodates up to eight people in two bedrooms.
The suite offers multiple features designed to cater for the needs of families and children, such as a floor-to-ceiling LEGO wall, an air hockey table, large sofas, a 3D movie theatre-style room and stairs leading up to the main bedroom. Inspired by Royal Caribbean president and CEO Michael Bayley, the suite also has an indoor slide from the children’s bedroom to the living room below.
“Nobody knows its guests better than Royal Caribbean,” said Francesca Bucci, president of BG Studio International, in a video interview for Royal Caribbean. “The company really wanted to add something fun, active, unexpected and a little crazy. Bringing to life the ultimate dream for families and children.”
BG Studio opted to use bright colours such as oranges, yellows, blues. “The colour scheme of the Ultimate Family Suite was a subject of very many conversations and we decided to colour the slide orange and put it in the background with similar elements,” Bucci said.
The outside terrace features a 212-square-foot balcony with a Jacuzzi and a climbing wall, as well as a table and sun loungers. “We wanted to design the terrace in a way that would provide a seamless transition from the interior to the exterior,” Bucci explained.
Speaking in the same video interview, Bayley said: “The Ultimate Family Suite is the combination and the aggregate of all these different features. It’s the collection of all of these unique innovative ideas that are totally focused on the family experience.”
