African ferry operator Azam Marine and Coastal Fast Ferries has launched its new 45-metre catamaran ferry Kilimanjaro IV, which was designed by Incat Crowther and built by Australian company Richardson Devine Marine.
The ferry can accommodate around 650 passengers and features a partitioned main deck with a business class cabin and an economy class cabin. The vessel also has a premium class cabin, exterior economy class seating on the upper aft deck and a seating area on the roof deck. Each class has an independent boarding ramp to port and starboard, while additional boarding is provided on the upper deck aft.
Kilimanjaro IV is also able to carry 32 freight carts in a dedicated freight compartment, with a fully integrated freight transfer system.
The catamaran is powered by four Cummins KTA 50 M2 main engines and propelled by KaMeWa 50A3 waterjets. In recent trials, it achieved a loaded service speed of 35 knots, while it is capable of a top speed of 38 knots.
