MSC Cruises has partnered with the Lego Group to offer themed playrooms, products and entertainment options onboard its four Lirica-class ships.
As part of the agreement, the Lego Group will supply various construction toys and games, and help to create play areas onboard the four ships, which will all be revitalised over the next few months as part of MSC’s £200 million Renaissance Programme.
The four Renaissance ships will have separate clubs and facilities for five age groups, including Baby (under 3s), Mini (3-6), Junior (7-11), Young (12-14) and Teen (15-17).
Each ship will offer Lego Duplo for children aged under three, classic Lego bricks and Vertical Play Wall for children aged 7-11, themed builds with limited edition bricks for 6-11 year olds. Passengers can also participate in one Lego Experience Day per cruise, enabling them to earn a Lego Master Builder Diploma. In addition, Lego mascot Sailor Walkabout will join MSC’s crew to meet and greet young passengers and join onboard parades and events.
All these features will be available free of charge, and will be replicated on the two additional ships of the MSC fleet to be delivered in 2017.
“The Lego Group and MSC Cruises are both family businesses, built on strong values that are recognised the world over, so our two companies are a great match,” said MSC’s CEO Gianni Onorato. “The Lego Group bricks and toys are close to the hearts of millions of people who grew up playing with them, and with this partnership we hope to give our younger guests some magical memories that they’ll treasure forever.”
Initially, the new Lego features will be available on MSC Armonia, which is currently undergoing an extension and refurbishment project at Fincantieri’s Palermo yard and is due to resume service on 19 November. The Lego features will be added to MSC Sinfonia next March, MSC Opera next July and MSC Lirica in November 2015.
