Saguenay officially inaugurated its Port Village on 13 May while Holland America Line’s Maasdam was in port.
Jean Tremblay, the city’s mayor and president of Promotion Saguenay, was joined by Ane Smit, Maasdam’s captain, to unveil a sculpture of the city’s new logo. It was designed by Marc Gauthier, Traitdemarc graphic designer and owner, and built by regional craftspeople to help people ‘fall in love with Saguenay.’
“These letters mark the official inauguration of Saguenay’s Port Village,” said Tremblay. “Now visitors can have their picture taken in front of these giant letters to remember Saguenay and our city’s name will travel around the world.”
During the ceremony, Tremblay and Smit also inaugurated a monument to honour Saguenay’s position as one of the premier cruise destinations on the St. Lawrence. Made from granite and aluminium, the monument portrays the mountains that descend into the fjord to represent Saguenay.
