Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg served as godmother of Color Line’s Color Hybrid, world’s largest plug-in hybrid vessel, during her christening on 23 August.

The ship, which was built at Norwegian shipyard Ulstein Werft, has already achieved national and international recognition for its forward-looking environmental solutions. Over 70% of the suppliers who contributed to the construction of the 160-metre-long, 2,000-passenger ferry are from Norway.

“This baptism is a milestone not only for Color Line, but for a unified Norwegian maritime industry,” said Trond Kleivdal, CEO of Color Line.

Color Hybrid features innovative solutions which reduce its noise and emissions. Its 65-ton, five-mega-watt batteries can be recharged in one hour from onshore power plants in Sandefjord, Norway.

Furthering its sustainability efforts, the ship also recycles the heat from its wake and exhaust to provide onboard heating and delivers its waste to power plants in Norway to create environmentally friendly power.
