Port Saint John in Canada is to welcome its 1,000th cruise ship, 25 years after welcoming its first vessel.
Calling for the second time this year, Princess Cruises’ Ruby Princess will make the milestone visit on 16 October.
“We’re thrilled to be celebrating another cruise milestone at the port,” said Betty MacMillan, manger of cruise development at Port Saint John. “In addition to our festive signature welcome provided to every cruise ship, we have a few special touches in place for Ruby Princess to commemorate this special occasion.”
To mark the milestone, the port will offer bunches of roses with a 1,000th anniversary sticker noting the ship’s name and the date of the call, while a larger banner will be displayed in the terminal. In addition, the port will present the ship’s captain with a framed photograph of Ruby Princess, which was taken by amateur photographer Jordan McWilliams on 26 September when the vessel last called at Port Saint John. McWilliams has also been invited to attend the presentation, which will take place onboard Ruby Princess.
Before the end of its 2014 cruise season, which will close on 27 October after a call from Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Navigator, Port Saint John will welcome seven more cruise vessels. During the 2014 season, which began on 5 July, the port handled a record number of double-ship days and seven inaugural calls.
In 2015, the port’s cruise season will be extended, opening on 5 May and closing on 3 November. Full details of the cruise ship schedule will be released at the end of 2014.
