Crystal Cruises has announced that its ship Symphony will enter the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Germany for a US$15 million refit in June.
Several of the ship’s major facilities will be remodelled during the 15-day dry docking, including the Avenue Saloon, Palm Court lounge, Galaxy showroom, Hollywood Theatre, Bridge Lounge and Fantasia and Waves ‘junior cruisers’ areas.
“On completion of this project, within the past five years we will have redesigned every room onboard Crystal Symphony details,” said Philip Ordever, the line’s vice president of international sales and marketing.
LA-based designer Kirk Nix is overseeing the makeover of the Avenue Saloon piano bar – which he also originally designed – the Palm Court and Bridge lounges. London shop SMC Design is in charge of the redesign of the main Galaxy Lounge theatre, including a new limestone floor entrance, flanked by LCD screens announcing upcoming shows and attractions. Another London firm, Adfecto, is redesigning the ship’s cinema, the Hollywood Theatre, as well as the Fantasia and Waves areas.
Other changes include new electronic ‘Do not Disturb’ doorbells in all staterooms (as installed on Crystal Serenity last May) and environmentally-efficient lighting installations for all electric upgrades/changes. The dry docking takes place at Blohm + Voss’s yard in Hamburg between 1-16 June.
