Avalon Waterways christened its 14th Suite Ship, Avalon View, on 12 April 2022, with American broadcaster Meredith Vieira serving as godmother.
During the naming ceremony, Vieira followed maritime tradition by breaking a bottle of sparkling wine against the ship’s bow and was watched by delegates from the cruise line, including Pam Hoffee, managing director of Avalon Waterways, Captain Ambrose Manolache and the ship’s 47 crew members.
“As a difference-making broadcast journalist, executive producer and television host, Meredith Vieira has given us a unique, up-close-and-personal view into her life – and the lives of countless others – with unparalleled storytelling, compassionate interviews and an extraordinary ability to connect with those she meets,” said Hoffee. “We are thrilled to celebrate Meredith, and her many accomplishments, today as she honoured us as godmother, christening the Avalon View.”
Avalon View’s interiors feature a brown and red colour scheme inspired by Dutch interior designer Liane van Leeuwen, as well as artwork by Dutch artists Eelco Maan and Sofie Fisher.
Avalon Choice offers up to 28 included excursions, from classic sightseeing to active adventures.
Avalon View will offer several itineraries based on the Danube River, including ‘Taste of the Danube’, ‘Danube Symphony’, ‘Active & Discover of the Danube and Gone Girl!’, which is a storyteller series cruise with Gone Girl author and celebrity host Gillian Flynn.
“Today, the Avalon View joins an entire fleet of Suite Ships in Europe and Southeast Asia,” said Hoffee. “Off our Suite Ships, we invite guests to dive into new experiences and exploration, each and every day, with industry-changing Active & Discovery itineraries and our Avalon Choice programme, available on every Avalon cruise."
