Portland Port on the Island of Portland, UK, is to receive a record-breaking 62 cruise ships during the 2022 season, with over 112,000 people expected to visit the local area.

The cruise season began on 21 April when Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ Hanseatic inspiration arrived for its maiden call and is expected to run until 14 November, closing with a call from AIDA Cruises’ AIDAvita. Out of the 62 ships coming to the island, 11 are making their first visit to the port and will receive a plaque made with locally sourced and produced Portland stone. These will include visits from Princess Cruises, Hurtigruten, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line and Holland America Line, among others.

“It is great to see the cruise industry bounce back so strongly following two years so severely disrupted by the pandemic,” said Ian McQuade, general manager of commercial at Portland Port. “To have over 60 calls and 112,000 guests scheduled to visit Portland Port this season is a phenomenal result. It is particularly gratifying to welcome so many first-time visitors.”
