Ponant Explorations is to introduce the Oracle Simphony Cloud point-of-sale (POS) solution to its fleet of 13 ships.

Oracle Simphony Cloud will enable crew to take orders and process payments from anywhere on the ship, delivering service poolside, in a restaurant or via a stateroom. There will also be options for guests to self-order their food or beverages, as well as allowing them to pay with their preferred method, including stateroom charge, credit card and mobile pay.

The solution also provides Ponant with insights into popular menu items, inventory levels and overall operations, providing information to help efforts to optimise efficiency and boost revenue.

“Ponant Explorations’ goal is to provide the best possible experiences and meet the changing needs of our guests,” said Jean-Louis Cambert, chief information officer at Ponant Explorations. “With Oracle Simphony’s mobile-enabled POS, our staff will be able to deliver exceptional service from fine dining to the pool bar or stateroom service, making their jobs easier and on-board service more seamless. From an IT perspective, this project allows us to simplify our infrastructure through a full software-as-a-service environment for the ‘Onshore’ side.”

Ponant is a long-time Oracle customer, and already uses the Shipboard Property Management and Fleet Management solutions onboard its ships.

“With advances in connectivity, cruise lines are now able to benefit from all the advantages of regular innovations delivered in the cloud,” said Alex Alt, executive vice president and general manager at Oracle Consumer Industries. “Using our comprehensive suite of cruise line solutions, Ponant Explorations will have the tools and data intelligence to help better manage its onboard operations from room management to restaurants to deliver an exceptional experience to its guests.”
