Cunard will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its first world cruise with two global voyages in 2023 onboard Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria.
The cruise line’s ship RMS Laconia was the first passenger liner to complete a continuous circumnavigation of the globe, followed by RMS Samaria. The itineraries for Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria will include many of the same ports of call as those original sailings.
Queen Victoria’s 92-night Centenary World Voyage will depart from New York, USA, and visit RMS Laconia’s 1922/23 port calls, with stops in Singapore, Colombo in Sri Lanka and Naples in Italy. The ship will also visit Aruba and Jordan, as well as completing a transit of the Panama Canal. The voyage will finish with a stop in Southampton, UK.
Queen Mary 2 will also depart from New York and emulate RMS Samaria’s 1923 sailing. The ship will visit Colombo, Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as making overnight stops in Dubai, Sydney in Australia and Cape Town in South Africa, before finally returning to New York.
“Cunard pioneered the World Voyage and a century later we’re as passionate about these very special voyages as ever,” said Simon Palethorpe, president of Cunard. “Our Centenary World Voyages in 2023 will provide a unique opportunity for guests to celebrate 100 years of visiting the four corners of the world in true Cunard luxury.”
