Emerald Cruises has added an additional Douro River sailing to the end of its 2023 programme following increased demand from passengers.
The eight-day ‘Seasonal Secrets of the Douro’ itinerary will depart on 2 December from Porto, Portugal. Emerald Radiance will head inland as far as the town of Pinhão in Portugal’s Douro Valley before returning to the coast.
During the journey, guests will be able to see the fortified structures of Castelo da Foz and Castelo do Queijo, as well as the historic city of Guimaraes. Visits to the Mateus Manor house and the Quinta do Tedo vineyard estate will also be available, along with a culinary tour of Porto at the conclusion of the cruise.
Guests will also be offered a three-day post-cruise stay in the Portuguese capital Lisbon at a centrally located hotel, including all transfers and a guided city tour.
“The Douro is always a fantastic seller for us and this year is no exception,” said Andrea Stafford, director of trade sales for Scenic Group. “We’ve built up our offering in the region over recent years and adding this extra itinerary effectively extends the season into the winter in the gentlest way. It is the perfect cruise for guests who want to relax on board our ships, with plenty of free time to explore the local towns on the way.”
