Award-winning author and renowned Abraham Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer will join guests on Tauck’s ‘Most Hallowed Ground’ Civil War tour in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, next September.

Holzer has authored, co-authored and edited 49 books devoted mostly to Lincoln and served as a consultant on Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln film. He will speak to guests about the 16th US president’s life and legacy while the ship is in Gettysburg, where Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address on 19 November 1863.

“With the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s death occurring this year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on one of the most seminal figures in American history,” said Dan Mahar, Tauck CEO. “At Tauck, our mission is to provide travellers with enriching, inspiring experiences they can’t arrange on their own and learning about Lincoln from such a renowned expert – and in the anniversary year of his death – is just the kind of ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ moment that we’re proud to offer our guests.”

Tauck’s Most Hallowed Ground Civil War Tour has been developed in cooperation with Ken Burns, director of film The Civil War . Departing on 25 September, the 11-day itinerary begins with a three-night stay at Willard hotel in Washington DC, where Tauck guests will enjoy exclusive early-admission into the National Archives and visits to other Civil War-related sites in the city.

Guests will also sail to Virginia to visit the homes of founding fathers Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, as well as Appomattox Court House, Petersburg, Richmond and the site of abolitionist John Brown’s failed raid at Harpers Ferry. While in Maryland, guests will call at the Antietam National Battlefield and the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. A series of exclusive film vignettes featuring comment from Burns will be played throughout the journey.
