ADELTE Ports & Maritime has installed two seaport passenger boarding bridges (SPBBs) at the new Cruise Center Steinwerder terminal, in Hamburg, Germany.
Opened on 10 June, Hamburg’s third cruise terminal is comprised of two separate arrivals and departures buildings, both of which are connected to ADELTE’s SPBBs. This enables flexible and fast embarking and disembarking operations for up to 8,000 cruise guests a day.
The custom-designed Hydra-model SPBBs, which were installed in May, are equipped with a newly designed docking ramp that can be converted into stairs by electromechanical actuators to allow passenger to embark and disembark via cruise ships doors below quay level. This ensures optimum operating efficiency and enhances the safety of passengers, including those with reduced mobility.
“The design/build of Cruise Center Steinwerder was successfully completed in time to meet agreements with our clients,” said Sacha Rougier, managing director of Cruise Gate Hamburg, a subsidiary of Hamburg Port Authority. “The two symmetrical boarding bridges designed, manufactured and installed by ADELTE play an important role in our operations. Therefore Cruise Gate Hamburg is very happy with these custom systems, particularly because of the uniquely designed docking ramps that allow us to service cruise ship doors below quay level.”
ADELTE has now installed a total of six operational SPBBs in Hamburg and Kiel, another German port. The company has also recently designed, manufactured and/or installed SPBBs for cruise and ferry terminals in Leixoes, Portugal; Rotterdam, Netherlands; Savona, Italy; Singapore; Busan in South Korea; Denia, Spain; Stornoway, Ireland; Ullapool, Scotland; and Swinoujscie, Poland.
