German operator AIDA Cruises has appointed Nicole Langosch as captain of AIDAsol, making her the first female cruise ship captain for both the brand and Germany.

Langosch completed her nautical science studies in Leer, Germany and subsequently worked for a container shipping company in New Zealand and for the European Union in Belgium. She has held various positions on AIDA ships over the past 10 years.

“I’m proud to work at a company that promotes the careers of young women and that has made it possible for me pursue my dream profession,” said Langosch. “I look forward to my new role as captain onboard AIDAsol and am aware of the great responsibility.”

With a length of 253 metres and width of 32 metres, AIDAsol is one of 12 ships in the AIDA fleet and currently travels between the Canary Islands in Spain and Madeira, Portugal. On 25 March, Langosch will navigate the ship to Hamburg, Germany. From there, the ship will depart for Northern Europe and Norway on 7 April.
