AIDA Cruises is to introduce a flat-rate fee for guests using social media networks while they are onboard its ships.

Guests can pay €4 per day, or €19 per week to share updates and photographs with friends and family at home via popular networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp.

“The use of mobile devices is continuously growing and we want to accommodate this trend, so we are offering our guests an additional service with the flat rate,” said Thomas Pfitzer, CTO at AIDA Cruises.

In addition, AIDA is to introduce new low-cost, high-speed internet packages, and significantly increase the bandwidth and speed of its internet service.

Guests will be able to choose the M package to get 250 MB of data for €25, the L package to get 500 MB for €39, or the XL package to get 3 GB for €99. Guests can also upgrade to a higher data volume by paying the price difference between the packages. This marks the first time the AIDA internet packages can be used on an unlimited basis throughout the duration of the voyage, rather than for a certain number of minutes per day.

“With these package offers, we help keep the costs of satellite-based internet connections at sea reasonable for our guests,” said Pfitzer.

AIDA has already debuted the new internet packages onboard AIDAmar and AIDAvita and will make it available on four more ships by July, before rolling it out to the entire fleet by the end of November. The new Internet packages and fees will be part of the standard offering on the new flagship AIDAprima, which will launch in October.
