AIDA Cruises is to christen its 11th cruise ship AIDAprima during the 827th Hamburg Port Anniversary celebrations in Germany this May.

The new flagship, which will offer seven-day roundtrips from Hamburg to West Europe from 30 April, will arrive in Hamburg alongside AIDAaura on 7 May. AIDAprima will moor at the new Cruise Center Steinwerder, while AIDAaura will call at the Cruise Center Altona. Visitors will be able to take a free hourly barge service between Inner Harbor South and Steinwerder to see AIDAprima close up.

Following the christening, AIDA will host a firework display over the Harbour Piers.

“This ship is the first of a new generation whose product innovations and environmental friendliness will in turn set new benchmarks for the future,” said Felix Eichhorn, president of AIDA Cruises. “With AIDAprima and the next three new ships to be built, we will continue to provide the German cruise market with a further momentum for growth. Plus, with more than 70 calls this year we are by far the most important cruise partner of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg.”
