AIDA Cruises has teamed up with German newspaper Bild am Sonntag to find a family who will christen its first-ever LNG-powered cruise ship, AIDAnova, this August.

Families consisting of two to five people can apply for the godparent role between 15-22 July and the winner will be chosen by a panel of judges. In addition to officially naming AIDAnova during her AIDA Open Air christening ceremony at Meyer Werft’s shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on 31 August, the winning family will also be offered a complimentary seven-day cruise onboard the ship once she is in service.

AIDAnova, which will offer several at-sea firsts, will be christened outside Meyer Werft’s covered building dock during the ceremony. Captain Boris Becker will accompany the godparent family as they name the ship. Attendees will also be able to enjoy a firework display and a live concert by DJ David Guetta.

In mid-September, AIDAnova will embark on a voyage to Eemshaven in the Netherlands for her sea trials and then undergo final outfitting before being delivered to AIDA on 15 November in Bremerhaven, Germany. Following a series of preview cruises, the vessel will embark on her official inaugural cruise on 2 December from Hamburg, Germany to the Canary Islands, where she will spend the rest of her maiden season.
