AIDAprima and AIDAsol became the first two AIDA Cruises ships to be simultaneously supplied with, and/or powered by energy produced from, LNG fuel while berthed in Hamburg, Germany on 14 May.

AIDAprima, which is the first cruise ship capable of operating on LNG while in port, had her dual-fuel motors supplied directly from an LNG truck at the Steinwerder cruise terminal. Meanwhile AIDAsol was supplied via Hummel, an LNG hybrid barge, in the HafenCity.

Following her first successful LNG-supply trial run in Hamburg on 7 May 2016, AIDAprima has also completed her first LNG operation at the ports of Southampton in the UK, Le Havre in France, and Zeebrügge in Belgium.

Compared to conventional marine diesel fuel, LNG will eliminate sulphur oxide and soot particle emissions, reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 80%, and decrease carbon dioxide emissions by 20%.
