AIDA Cruises’ AIDAcara called at Finland’s port of Turku on 11 May, marking her first visit since she was constructed in the city in 1996.

AIDAcara was built at the Kvaerner Masa Yard, now known as the Meyer Turku shipyard, before she entered service in 1996. The ship was welcomed by musicians at the quayside, while a choir of local shipping executives performed sea shanties on the ship’s open deck in the afternoon.

To mark the maiden call, around 40 shipboard staff also visited the Meyer Turku yard to find out more about how AIDAcara was built. It is expected that visits to the yard will be a regular, unique shore excursion for cruise passengers in future seasons.
