AIDA Cruises newest LNG-powered ship, AIDAcosma, set off for its first voyage with guests onboard from Hamburg, Germany, on 26 February 2022. The new ship will sail to Southampton in UK, Cherbourg in France, and Zeebrugge in Belgium and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, before arriving back in Hamburg on 5 March.
AIDAcosma was greeted by her sister ship, AIDAnova, at Teufelsbrück, near Hamburg, upon arrival into the German city.
“For me as captain, it is a special honour to be able to call at the Port of Hamburg with the newest LNG ship in our fleet,” said Captain Tommy Möller. “With AIDAcosma, we are bringing many innovations and, of course, many wonderful vacation experiences to Hamburg for our guests.”
With an Ocean Deck that features a large infinity pool, a Fun Park with an indoor playground, a Beach Club, a 360-degree stage for entertainment and Body & Soul Organic Spa, the new vessel offers a variety of onboard facilities. Restaurants include the Beach House Restaurant, Mamma Mia and Brewhouse.
The new vessel will be powered from LNG, becoming the second ship in AIDA’s fleet to be fuelled by green technology, alongside AIDAnova.
“For years, AIDA Cruises has been moving forward with great commitment in the research and development of alternative propulsion technologies for its ships, doing important pioneering work that benefits the industry and ultimately the entire shipping industry,” said Simone Maaschi, managing director of Cruise Gate Hamburg.
AIDAcosma’s christening ceremony will take place on 9 April 2022, when Kristina Vogel, former Olympic cyclist and 11-time Union Cycliste Internationale World Champion, will act as godmother.
Between 23 April and 15 October, AIDAcosma will operate from Palma and Barcelona, Spain, before sailing to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the winter season.
