AIDA’s newest ship, AIDAcosma, will be christened on 9 April 2022 in Hamburg, Germany, by godmother Kristina Vogel, a former Olympic cyclist and 11-time Union Cycliste Internationale World Champion.
The new vessel is the second of the AIDA fleet to be powered by LNG and has the motto of ‘The world is becoming more colourful’.
The naming ceremony will feature a 20-minute light show with 300 luminous drones, which will be broadcast online from 21:30 CET, and a concert performed by German DJ, Alle Farben.
Following the ceremony, guests will depart for a 14-day christening voyage between 9 and 23 April 2022, from Hamburg to Palma de Mallorca, Spain. This will begin with a ‘lap of honour’ in front of Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie concert hall.
Guests sailing on the maiden voyage will be able to participate in excursions at destinations such as Lisbon, Portugal; Málaga and Barcelona, Spain, as well as menu specially curated by gourmet chefs Sven Marquardt, Andrea Schirmeier-Huber and Franz Schned. Chefs will also appear onstage during the trip, joined by TV chef Felicitas Then.
Reiner Meutsch, founder of the Fly & Help Foundation, which invests in educational programmes across the world, will also be onboard to present the show Abenteuer Weltumrundung (Adventure around the world) from 12-17 April 2022.
Onboard entertainment will also include performances from pianist Joja Wendt, guest artist Wayne Morris and comedian Niko Fromanek.
AIDAcosma features a four-deck viewing platform, Fun Park, 360-degree stage, spa, 17 restaurants and 23 bars and cafés.
Between April and October, she will travel on the Palma-Barcelona route and sail a one-week ‘Mediterranean Treasures’ itinerary, calling at Florence, Rome, Italy, and Corsica, France. She will then sail from Dubai during the winter.
