Almaco Group is to build 13 additional crew cabins onboard Royal Caribbean International’s Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas.

Work will take place onboard Anthem of the Seas in November and December 2015, while Almaco will work on Quantum of the Seas in January 2016. Almaco will also carry out work on the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, in addition to the electrical and piping work.

The new contract follows Almaco’s successful turnkey delivery of 17 new crew cabins on both Quantum-class ships while they were in service between May and July this year. During the project, Almaco’s modernisation team converted the crew’s Windjammer dining area on deck 2 into cabins and completed the related electrical and piping works.

“The team faced several technical and scheduling challenges with back-to-back projects that had practically overlapping timelines,” said Tommi Virta, project manager at Almaco. “The work was carried out while the ship was sailing with guests, which was a challenge as the guest experience could not be impacted. Moreover, there was limited space for material storage.”
