ALMACO Group is to build and install provision stores and its Fast Thawing Chambers on AIDA Cruises’ new LNG cruise ships, which will be delivered by Meyer Werft at the end of 2018 and 2021.
The company will deliver a total of nine Fast Thawing Chambers, which have been engineered by ALMACO to reduce food thawing times. Each chamber can thaw 750kg of frozen food in 12 hours, enabling AIDA to thaw a total of 6,750 kg of food per day.
ALMACO has been constructing food handling areas for AIDA Cruises newbuilds since 2002. Most recently, it designed, supplied, delivered and commissioned all of the equipment for the galleys, pantries, bars, buffet areas, the refrigeration plant for the provision stores, the galley refrigerators and Fast Thawing Chambers for AIDAprima, which debuted in May 2016. When she debuts this June, AIDAperla will also feature the same ALMACO equipment, as well as modular cabins in the accommodation areas.
“ALMACO is proud to have been selected as a preferred vendor by AIDA Cruises and to continue our strong relationship with the innovative cruise line, especially in this pioneering move into LNG power,” said Bjorn Stenwall, president of the Marine Division at ALMACO Group.
