River cruise operator AmaWaterways christened its new 164-passenger AmaSonata in Vilshofen, Germany.
Named by the line’s first ever Canadian godmother, Brenda Kyllo of the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), AmaSonata arrived in Vilshofen after completing her ‘Melodies of the Danube’ sailing. Kyllo arrived at the port in a horse-drawn carriage with AmaWaterways’ co-founders Rudi Schreiner and Kristin Karst.
During the ceremony, invited guests enjoyed a traditional Bavarian lunch, live music, waltzes and a professional shooting display, which was carried out the ship’s sundeck. The christening closed with a fireworks display.
“We are honoured to have celebrated yet another successful and very special christening this week, officially welcoming AmaSonata to our expanding family,” said Kristin Karst, AmaWaterways’ executive vice president and co-owner. “AmaWaterways is delighted to recognise Brenda Kyllo as godmother to AmaSonata, as we so greatly value our relationship with CAA members and our Canadian travellers overall.”
Joining her sister ships AmaPrima, AmaCerto and AmaReina, AmaSonata features spacious staterooms and suites, multiple dining venues, onboard massage and salon services. The ship also has a heated swimming pool with a swim-up bar, fitness room, complimentary bicycles and many other amenities.
AmaSonata embarked on her inaugural voyage from Amsterdam on 22 April and has since visited Prague, Budapest, and other destinations along the Danube. The ship’s future itineraries include ‘The Legendary Danube’, ‘The Romantic Danube’ and ‘The Melodies of the Danube’.
