American Cruise Lines successfully launched its newest ship, American Constellation, on 9 July, nine weeks ahead of schedule.
Designed and built at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, American Constellation was launched on the Wicomico River and manoeuvred into the east outfitting basin where the upper decks will be installed. Chesapeake Shipbuilding will also complete interior outfitting.
“The launching of American Constellation could not have gone any better,” said Timothy Beebe, vice president of American Cruise Lines. “The team at Chesapeake Shipbuilding has done a fantastic job realising our vision for this new cruise ship. We are thrilled that the construction of American Constellation continues to be well ahead of schedule.”
American Constellation will have capacity for up to 170 passengers and is scheduled to begin sailing in spring 2017, bringing American Cruise Lines’ fleet up to nine ships. The vessel will debut with two seven-night roundtrips in Chesapeake Bay from Baltimore, Maryland, before sailing ten-night cruises on a new ‘Grand New England’ roundtrip from Boston, Massachusetts.
