Newbuild plans as US river cruise operator records passenger rise
American Cruise Lines to grow

US cruise operator American Cruise Lines has recorded 25% passenger growth for the third consecutive year.

The Connecticut-based company, which currently operates more than 35 itineraries on waterways in 28 US states, attributed this success to the rising popularity of river cruising and the personalised service it offers passengers.

“The demand for riverboat vacations is higher than it has ever been and as the leader in the US river and coastal cruise category, American Cruise Lines remains poised for continued expansion and success with its new building programme,” said Charles Robertson, the line’s president. “Today’s travellers are seeking more personalised and intimate travel experiences, along with top-notch accommodations and service, which is only possible with new small ships like ours.”

To cater for the increased demand, the operator will launch a new 150-passenger paddlewheeler and is expected to announce details of additional newbuilds in the coming weeks. The line’s recently launched Queen of the Mississippi will also offer a series of new Mississippi River itineraries in 2014.

“Passengers have always come first onboard American Cruise Lines,” said Robertson. “We continue to listen closely to their feedback and suggestions, which drives the innovations we build into our new vessels and creates intriguing itineraries to ensure they have the best experience possible.”
