Chesapeake Shipbuilding has started the final assembly stage for American Cruise Lines’ new American Harmony after moving her lower bow section from the fabrication to the assembly launchway.

Set to debut in the first quarter of 2019, American Harmony is the second in a series of five new modern riverboats that are being introduced on the Mississippi and Columbia and Snake Rivers. The first in the series, American Song, sailed her inaugural voyage from her new homeport in New Orleans, Louisiana in early October.

Like her sister, American Harmony will feature a ramp that extends and retracts from the bow of the ship to facilitate bow landings whenever and wherever they are needed. The vessel will also have a multi-storey glass atrium with a large domed skylight, lounges with triple the amount of glass of other riverboats, luxury accommodation and other amenities.

American Harmony will sail a series of eight-day ‘Lower Mississippi River’ cruises from the Port of New Orleans when she debuts.
