American radio presenter Elvis Duran has been named as the godfather of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, Norwegian Bliss, which will begin sailing in May 2018.
Duran will officially christen the ship during her inauguration ceremony at Pier 66 in her Seattle homeport on 30 May. Joining Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ president and CEO Frank Del Rio and Norwegian Cruise Line’s president and CEO Andy Stuart, Duran will break a bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull to bring good luck to her and all who sail in her.
“Elvis Duran epitomises the high-energy and liveliness that the ship represents and we’re very excited to have him join the family as godfather to Norwegian Bliss,” saidv Stuart. “Norwegian’s mission is first and foremost to provide guests with a one-of-a-kind unforgettable vacation and continue to develop and offer guests the latest innovative experiences. As one of the most beloved radio hosts in history, Elvis’ commitment to entertainment and bringing laughter and joy to his listeners each day is exactly why we believe he is the perfect fit to represent Norwegian Bliss.”
Currently under construction at Meyer Werft’s yard in Papenburg, Germany, the 4,000-guest Norwegian Bliss is the third Breakaway-Plus class ship and the first to be custom-built with features and amenities for the Alaska region. Onboard highlights will include a two-level electric car race track, an open-air laser tag course, an aqua park, waterslides, two observation lounges, multiple dining venues and bars, The Haven by Norwegian suites, and several other at-sea firsts.
“I am honoured to be named godfather for Norwegian Bliss,” said Duran. “This incredible ship and all the innovative activities onboard, from the race track to Broadway shows, perfectly reflect the energy and excitement of our morning show and we are looking forward to bringing our loyal listeners along for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. I can’t wait until she arrives next May!”
During her inaugural summer 2018 season, Norwegian Bliss will sail weekly seven-day Alaska cruises each Saturday from the recently expanded Pier 66 Cruise Terminal in Seattle. The ship’s itinerary will feature calls in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria, British Columbia, along with scenic glacier cruising.
Norwegian Bliss will start her first winter season in November 2018, sailing seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises each Saturday from PortMiami, featuring calls in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; Tortola, British Virgin Islands and Nassau, Bahamas.
