Amsterdam plans developments

Authorities at the Amsterdam Cruise Port and the Port of IJmuiden are considering plans to extend IJmuiden’s Felison Terminal by 1,000 square metres, pending the number of larger cruise ships opting for turnaround calls.

The first phase of the extension to connect the existing terminal and a new terminal is planned for autumn 2013 and will be used to process embarking passengers’ luggage.

Amsterdam Cruise Port and the Port of IJmuiden received a record 800,000 cruise passengers and 187 calls on both ocean and river vessels during the 2012 cruise season. The Amsterdam ports are set to welcome 195 calls in 2013, with IJmuiden scheduled to receive 40 cruise calls – 20 of which will be turnaround visits.

"We hope to construct the second terminal/extension in time for the 2015 season. It will be constructed in such a way that a second floor can be added in future to create an additional 1,000sqm,” said Ron Maes, general manager of KVSA Logistics and Felison Terminal.
