European tour operator ANEX Tour is to enter into the cruise business for the first time by acquiring Saga Cruises’ Saga Sapphire.
The 800-passenger vessel will be transferred to ANEX Tour in mid-2020 and begin sailing cruises around the Eastern Mediterranean from her new homeport in Antalya, Turkey.
“With changing habits of travellers, we must adopt our product offering accordingly,” said Neset Kockar, chairman of ANEX Tour. “By acquiring Saga Sapphire, we will be able to create a unique eastern Mediterranean cruise experience for our valued guests.”
Spanning 12 decks, Saga Sapphire offers various onboard amenities, such as 382 cabins, restaurants, pools, a spa, a shopping arcade and many other recreational activities.
“With her spacious cabins and comfortable public areas, Saga Sapphire has become hugely popular with our guests over the last seven years,” said Nigel Blanks, chief operating officer at Saga Cruises. “As the time approaches for her to leave the Saga fleet, we are delighted that she will now have a new career launching ANEX Tour's exciting new cruise product.”
