APT Travel Group is to debut a new, custom-designed ship on Portugal’s Douro River.
MS Estrela will make its maiden voyage in 2024 and has been specifically designed to sail sections of the 557-mile-long river, which weaves through one of the world’s oldest wine-growing areas. The ship will be available to both APT and Travelmarvel brands, with each one offering different itineraries to guests.
“We are committed to providing the highest quality for our guests and the introduction of the new MS Estrela delivers in spades,” said David Cox, APT’s CEO. “When she glides into Portugal next year, we will see a glorious ship designed with a nod to the landscapes of the Douro Valley and a contemporary southern European ambience. Small in size, with a maximum of 120 guests, MS Estrela will be grand in stature. We are delighted and proud to have the MS Estrela, meaning star in Portuguese, join our fleet of stars sailing in Europe.”
MS Estrela will feature a sun deck with pool, bar and putting green, a main restaurant serving a range of Portuguese, Mediterranean and international flavours, and a selection of balcony suites with electric windows opening onto a French balcony, a design first introduced on Travelmarvel’s vessels sailing the Rhine and Danube rivers.
