Cruise Atlantic Canada predicts a record 658,662 passengers will sail to the region's six major ports during the 2013 cruise season.

The figure indicates a rise from 2012, when 649,053 cruise guests visited Saint John in New Brunswick, St John's and Corner Brook in Newfoundland and Labrador, Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island and Halifax and Sydney in Nova Scotia.

This year, Atlantic Canada ports expect to handle around 345 calls from more than 20 operators including AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Cunard Line, Oceania Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Regent Seven Seas, Royal Caribbean International and Seabourn.

Holland America Line has also increased the number of its ships in the region, with Maasdam, Veendam and Eurodam operating from various ports over a five-month period. Both Maasdam and Veendam will saile seven-day trips from Boston, New York and Montréal, visiting Charlottetown, Halifax and Sydney. Eurodam will offer three ten-day sailings between New York and Québec City calling at Halifax, Sydney and Charlottetown in September and October.
