Attica Holdings plans to offer a daily, 10-hour ferry service between PortMiami in Florida, US, and the Port of Havana in Cuba, after receiving an operating licence from the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Attica Group was granted approval through its wholly owned US subsidiary, Superfast Ferries, and is currently in the process of applying for appropriate regulatory and other approvals from the Cuban government.

“We are pleased to receive the US government approval and are excited to be able to offer service on the historically important US-Cuba marine route,” said Spiros Paschalis, CEO of Attica Group. “The US licence confirms the reliability, trust and superior quality for which Attica Group’s fleet has been internationally renowned for. Opening up the US-Cuba route is an important step in rebuilding relations between the two countries and we hope to be able to provide travellers with an opportunity to experience the immense beauty and rich cultural heritage of Cuba.”

Two of Attica Group’s 13 modern ferries have initially been chosen to operate on the 230-mile route. Each of the 1,700-passenger vessels has 700 berths and a 2,000 lane metres garage that is capable of carrying around 570 cars. Both ferries are fully equipped with restaurants, duty-free shops, a swimming pool, bars, playroom and other family-oriented activities.
