International author Patricia Schultz christened Avalon Waterways’ fifth Suite Ship Avalon Expression in Koblenz, Germany on 6 May 2013.
“It is an honour, without doubt, but also a thrill and a delight to have this chance to christen the Avalon Expression,” said Schultz, who christened the vessel by breaking a champagne bottle against the side of its bow. “I know that countless adventurers will fill every departure, excited by the promise of exploring Europe's history-lined rivers. Sailing through its most special corners on such a beautiful vessel is something that makes me exceptionally proud.”
As one of the line’s Suite Ships, Avalon Expression offers two full decks of panorama suites with wall-to-wall panoramic windows that open to create ‘open air balconies’. It also feature lounges with outside viewing areas, a bar and dining room, the Open-Air bistro, a hairdressing salon, sky deck jacuzzi and an expanded fitness centre with additional equipment.
Following its launch, the 166-passenger vessel will operate on the line’s popular The Legendary Danube, The Blue Danube Discovery and Magnificent Europe itineraries.
