Azamara Club Cruises’ Azamara Quest opened the 2015 season in Tarragona when she made her maiden visit to the Spanish cruise port on 29 May.
Arriving after a visit to the French port of Nice, Azamara Quest berthed overnight at the Levante dock, which is unusual for ships visiting Tarragona.
The ship’s 700 passengers were able to visit Tarragona’s city centre and on 30 May, around 31% of the passengers embarked on organised tours. Of these passengers, 42% visited Tarragona World Heritage, 9% visited the medieval monastery of Poblet and Milmanda castle, 38% visited Barcelona, and 11% visited Montserrat and the cellars of Codorniu. Other tourist attractions in Tarragona and Costa Daurada, include wine cellars, golf courses, beaches, UNESCO World Heritage sites and Reus, the birthplace of renowned architect Antoni Gaudí.
Azamara Quest departed Tarragona for Malaga, another Spanish port, on 30 May.
This year, Tarragona Cruise Port is to welcome nine cruise ships and 8,000 passengers, a significant increase from the 2,000 cruisers who visited in 2014.
