Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ flagship Balmoral arrived in Darwin on 8 March 2013, marking the vessel’s first visit to the Australian port.
The 1,350-passenger ship made its inaugural call as part of the 112-night World Cruise itinerary and the event was celebrated by an onboard plaque exchanging ceremony between the cruise line and Darwin Port.
“We are very excited that we are able to offer our guests access to so many varied and exciting ports around the world, and I am sure that Darwin will register as a real highlight of this ‘World Cruise’ onboard Balmoral, our longest-ever sailing,” said Nathan Philpot, sales and marketing director for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.
Balmoral’s maiden visit to Darwin highlights Fred. Olsen’s focus on increasing the diversity and availability of its itineraries for global passengers. The 2013-2014 cruise programme sees the line’s four cruise vessels visit 12 new ports, including Yangon, the former capital of Burma (now Myanmar), Osaka and Hiroshima in Japan, and Nawiliwili in Hawaii.
Philpot added: “Because of our wide choice of convenient regional UK departure ports – nine for the 2013-2014 cruise season – and range of worldwide itineraries, Fred. Olsen is positioned as the ‘local, global cruise line’ and we are committed to bringing the world closer to guests, with sailings from right on customers’ door steps.”
