Hamburg-based Blohm+Voss Repair is on track to complete a 25-day, multimillion-dollar refit onboard Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 by 21 June.

The 2,620-passenger ship, which entered drydock on 27 May, will be fitted with 15 new single cabins, 30 more Britannia Club cabins and an expanded area for pet kennels. She will also be updated with new features that have been tested with thousands of past and future Cunard guests worldwide over the past 18 months.

Cunard will completely redesign the Kings Court buffet dining venue and transform Queen Mary 2’s Winter Garden into the Carinthia Lounge, which will serve light breakfasts and lunch. The venue will also offer a dedicated patisserie and afternoon tea service, including the option of a Veuve Cliquot Champagne Afternoon Tea experience. At night, the Carinthia Lounge will offer ‘premium wine, small plates and relaxed entertainment’.

McCue Marine will renovate the Queen’s Grill and Princess Grill restaurants, and the Queen’s Grill Lounge.

UK-based SMC Design is leading the design efforts for the refurbishment project, introducing ‘classic Deco touches’ inspired by Cunard’s heritage, and new signature colour schemes, carpets, furniture and more decorative fixtures and fittings throughout the vessel.

Queen Mary 2 will also be equipped with four new exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers), while the bow thrusters and other propulsion equipment will undergo maintenance work.
