Breakaway completes sea trials

Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest newbuild Norwegian Breakaway has successfully completed her technical and nautical sea trials, which took place off the coast of Norway and Denmark to ensure the ship meets speed, manoeuvrability and safety requirements.

The tests were carried out by Breakaway’s captain, navigational officers and representatives from the Meyer Werft shipyard. They included speed tests and a ‘Crash Test’, which was used to gauge Breakaway’s stoppage capabilities.

Breakaway also passed the ‘Turning Circle’, ‘Williamson’s Turn’ and ‘Zig Zag’ trials, indicating she is able to turn efficiently in the case of an onboard emergency, as well as rapidly manoeuvre away from upcoming hazards while maintaining its forward course. Noise and vibration tests were carried out to ensure there is proper insulation between all staterooms, corridors and public areas, while wind levels were assessed on the pool deck and the ship’s outdoor dining and recreational area.

The onboard operations team will prepare the ship for a series of inaugural events and transatlantic voyages, which will begin after the ship’s delivery on 25 April 2013.
