Simulation specialist Vstep has gained Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Class A certification for its Nautis Full Mission Bridge Simulator. This allows the company to operate the system as a fully-certified maritime training simulator through any maritime training school worldwide.

Based on interactive 3D technology used in the computer games industry, the Nautis solution is used by both military and civilian maritime organisations for officer and crew training. To achieve certification, the simulator was audited onsite by a team from DNV led by head of simulator certification, captain Aksel David Nordholm. Following the certification, Nordholm said: “Vstep’s Nautis simulators provide true to life maritime simulation and training in full accordance with known design criteria, class and IMO requirements.”

Vstep director, Pjotr van Schothorst, commented: “NAUTIS represents a new generation of simulation technology that is more versatile, visually superior and significantly lower cost than previous solutions. With the DNV certification, maritime training centres will no longer be forced to choose between a simulator meeting the certification requirements and one using state-of-the-art technology at an affordable price.” Vstep now has Class notation for integrated simulator systems, tugs and high-speed craft.
