Brittany Ferries has handled a record number of ferry passengers on its route between Portsmouth, UK and France and Spain for the second consecutive year.
Between June and August 2016, the ferry operator transported 828,492 travellers from Portsmouth International Port to Le Havre, Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo in France, as well as to Bilbao and Santander in Spain. In total, 70% of the line’s customers travel from Portsmouth International Port, the main hub of its operation.
“Passenger numbers are up and we're no longer the best kept secret on the Western Channel,” said Mike Bevens, Brittany Ferries’ group commercial director. “Today, we are the most attractive alternative to no-frills airlines and the most convenient choice when travelling to continental Europe by car.”
Brittany Ferries also reported a 4.4% increase in the number of vehicles carried on all of its routes to France and Spain.
“These impressive statistics show that more and more passengers are enjoying the convenience of a holiday that starts from Portsmouth International Port,” said Kalvin Baugh, ferry port manager at Portsmouth International Port. “Brittany Ferries has been proactively marketing the benefits of travelling to France and Spain from Britain’s Best Connected Port. With easy access from London, the South East and the Midlands there is no better choice for holidaymakers looking for a hassle free crossing to the continent.”
