The British Virgin Island Ports Authority (BVIPA) expects to complete the majority of its new five-acre Tortola Pier Park (TPP) complex by 31 October.
Featuring green spaces and commercial, retail and entertainment facilities, TPP has been built as part of the BVIPA’s US$35 million Cruise Pier Expansion Project, which was officially opened on 29 April with a call from Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Getaway.
By the end of October, the BVIPA anticipates that 10 of the 11 leasable buildings on the landside development will be substantially completed.
In total, 54 businesses have already been approved to lease premises in TPP including international companies and 50 firms owned by BVI ‘belongers’ and islanders. These businesses will sell locally made goods such as souvenirs, clothing, jewellery, footwear, leather goods, food and beverage, eyewear, perfumes and cosmetics, and more. Other outlets will include a post office and a medical services facility.
“The BVI Ports Authority looks forward to substantial and actual completion of this project when the substantial benefits under Berthing Agreements would mature and be derived,” said Claude Skelton Cline, managing director of the BVIPA.
