Carnival has agreed to invest more than €20 million to build and operate a new cruise terminal on the Port of Barcelona’s Adossat Wharf.
The agreement was confirmed on 27 September following a meeting between Catalan president Artur Mas, Barcelona’s mayor Xavier Trias, the port’s president Sixte Cambra, Carnival’s senior vice president Giora Israel, vice president Michel Nestour and several other senior executives from Carnival’s brands.
Expected to become operational in 2016, the 10,000 sqm Terminal E will be able to handle turnaround calls from 4,500-guest post panamax cruise ships. The Port of Barcelona also intends to invest €3.5 million to develop the area around Terminal E.
In 2005, Carnival also financed the construction of the port’s Palacruceros terminal – also known as Terminal D – and continues to manage its operations under concession on the Adossat Wharf. Palacruceros terminal is set to be extended with a 1,300 sqm building.
