P&O Cruises managing director Carol Marlow and Cunard Line’s president and managing director Peter Shanks are set to leave Carnival UK in September 2013 as part of a new commercial leadership structure.
The company has created two new marketing director roles for P&O Cruises and Cunard Line, as well as an insight director position covering both brands.
The new recruits will report to Gerard Tempest, who has been chief commercial officer since December 2012.
As part of the restructure, David Dingle will become the CEO of both Cunard Line and P&O Cruises.
“This is an exciting time for our brands and this new structure has been designed to deliver the many opportunities ahead of us,” said Tempest. “As a consequence, and after very careful consideration, the roles of P&O Cruises managing director and Cunard president and managing director will cease to exist and as a result Carol Marlow and Peter Shanks will both be leaving the business at the end of September.”
After joining Carnival UK in 1997, Carol Marlow successfully managed a number of brands including Swan Hellenic, Princess Cruises UK, Cunard and P&O Cruises. She has also directed the launch of five new ships.
Shanks joined Carnival in 2002 and has held leadership roles in the Cunard, Ocean Village and Princess Cruises UK brands. He has overseen the launch of Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.
“On behalf of everyone at P&O Cruises and Cunard, I would like to thank both Carol and Peter for their very significant contributions to the success of the business over many years and wish them every success in their future endeavours,” said Tempest.
Recruitment is at an advanced stage and a further announcement is expected shortly.
