Spain’s Port of Cartagena hosted a record 185,000 passengers and 120 cruise calls in 2016, a respective rise of 20% and 11% compared to 2015.
Maiden visitors included Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Jade, Holland America Line’s Koningsdam and Oosterdam, Oceania Cruises’ Sirena and Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess. The port authority also opened a small cruise terminal.
Numbers are set to rise again in 2017 when the port will welcome more than 150 calls and 230,000 passengers. Highlights of the season will include the completion of an expanded cruise berth, and double and triple ship calls.
