Caterpillar Incorporated and FPT Industrial are to develop new marine pleasure craft engines, which Caterpillar says will offer fuel efficiency along with high power, torque and load response.
The Cat C8.7 and Cat C12.9 marine pleasure craft engines will conform to Tier 3 emission regulations and provide yacht manufacturers with various horsepower ratings ranging from 650 to 1000 marine horse power (mhp). The compact design allows manufacturers to install high-powered engines in spaces which previously only accommodated low-powered engines. For instance, a pair of the 1000 mhp marine pleasure engines can be installed in a yacht’s hull.
FPT Industrial has also recently developed a second-generation rail fuel injection and innovative air handling techniques, to create a high power density and low-end torque.
